MMA Submission Holds
In the mixed martial arts world, there are a few different ways to end a fight. Knocking your opponent out with a well placed strike, or pummelling him through incessant attacks which result in a TKO.
But the best wins are the submissions, especially when you can humiliate your opponent into tapping out.
There’s nothing worse for these fighters than admitting defeat. Some of these guys will even try and finish a fight despite having broken bones, so if you manage to catch them in the right submission, you are showing that you are clearly their master.
So what kinds of submissions are there?
There are three categories that your submission can fall into: joint locks, choke holds, or compression locks.
Joint locks are MMA submission holds that use leverage to hyperextend or hyperrotate the joints of your opponent. Some of the more common joint locks are:
* Shoulder Locks
o Kimura
o Americana
o Omoplata
o Arm Bar (targets the elbow)
* Leg/Foot/Knee Locks
o Knee Bar
o Ankle Lock
o Heel Hook
o Toe Hold
* Spine/Neck Locks
o Can opener
o Neck Crank
o Twister
o Spine Crank
Choke holds are designed to knock your opponent out by cutting off the flow of blood to his brain. Applied right, you don’t have to worry about your rival tapping out, as once you’ve got him in the hold; it’s usually a matter of seconds until he’s unconscious.
* Rear Naked Choke
* Triangle Choke
* Arm Triangle
* Guillotine
* Gator Roll
* Gogoplata
Compression locks are amazingly painful holds that are effective because they press the muscle into the bone. Some of the more painful compression locks are:
* Achilles Lock
* Bicep Slicer
* Leg Slicer
So, if you are looking to learn a technique that will cause your opponent massive amounts of pain and humiliation, and more importantly – will win you the match – you might want to try practicing some of the above methods.
