Clay Guida vs. Shannon Gugerty Fight Prediction – UFC on Versus 1

CLAY GUIDA vs. SHANNON GUGERTY

Fight Overview:  Clay Guida, coming off two straight losses against top fighters, gets a step down in competition against veteran Shannon Gugerty.  Gugerty is a ground fighter, but Guida is a machine when it comes to wrestling and cardio, so Gugerty is going to have his hands full if he wants to move up the ladder in the Lightweight division.

Gugerty's Strengths:  Gugerty has a very good submission attack and decent standup.

Gugerty's Weaknesses:  His submission attack may be good, but his submission defense is extremely porous.  He also has subpar wrestling.

Guida's Strengths:  Guida has insane cardio that lets him keep up a relentless pace bell to bell.  He is also very aggressive standing, although not very skilled, and has very powerful wrestling.

Guida's Weaknesses:  Guida can get taken off his game by opponents who can stop his takedowns, and is not a very good finisher.

The Verdict:  Guida is just way too much for Gugerty.  Gugerty has good submission, but Guida will keep him backpedalling on the feet and easily control the ground game.  Expect him to rough Gugerty up both standing and on the ground and earn an easy decision.

Fight Prediction:    Clay Guida by unanimous decision.
