Tom Lawlor vs Aaron Simpson Fight Prediction – Fight Night 20

TOM LAWLOR vs. AARON SIMPSON

Fight Overview:  Two up and comers meet at 185 to figure out who becomes a mainstay and who is relegated to the undercard.  Lawlor, known as much for his antics as his in-ring performances, is nevertheless a skilled and versatile fighter, but he will have his hands full with Simpson, a decorated All-American wrestler.

Lawlor’s Strengths:  Lawlor has good submissions, decent wrestling, and pretty good striking.  He also puts it all together well.

Lawlor’s Weaknesses:  While maybe not a “weakness”, Lawlor’s chin has to be questioned after his knockout loss to Ryan Bader.

Simpson’s Strengths:  Simpson is a skilled wrestler with good takedowns, good top control, good ground and pound, and pretty solid boxing.  He also has a good training camp which includes two guys who have already fought Lawlor.

Simpson’s Weaknesses:  Simpson has only six fights, and has fought even worse opposition than Lawlor has.

The Verdict:  Simpson’s wrestling and punching power will prove too much for Lawlor to handle.  Simpson is arguably the better boxer and can also dictate where the fight goes because of his superior wrestling.  I expect him to keep it standing, though, and to eventually catch Lawlor for the T/KO.

Prediction: Aaron Simpson by T/KO.
