Fight Overview: A prototype striker vs. grappler match, pitting Koscheck’s dominant wrestling against Daley’s explosive standup, with a likely shot at the Welterweight title on the line.
Koscheck’s Strengths: Koscheck has amazing wrestling, especially his double leg takedown, and a bruising top game to match. He also has a lot of punching power.
Koscheck’s Weaknesses: He is too willing to try and excite the crowd with knockouts at the expense of playing to his own strengths.
Daley’s Strengths: Everything about Daley’s striking, from his speed to his power to his technique, is awesome.
Daley’s Weaknesses: His takedown defense and ground game are both extremely questionable.
The Verdict: If Koscheck gives in to fan pressure and stands up with Daley, he is going to get blasted. With so much on the line, though, and the personal animosity between the two fighters, I think Koscheck will revert to his base and smother Daley for three rounds en route to an easy unanimous decision.
Fight Prediction: Josh Koscheck by unanimous lay and pray decision.
