Fight Overview:  Patrick Cote returns from a long layoff to face another tough, well-rounded Middleweight in Alan Belcher.  Cote is notoriously difficult to finish, or to deal with at all, but Belcher is a great opponent to capitalize on any ring rust, making this a compelling matchup.

Belcher’s Strengths:  Belcher has heavy hands and a good submission attack.

Belcher’s Weaknesses:  His submission defense is somewhat porous and his wrestling is not very good.

Cote’s Strengths:  Cote has good control with his wrestling and an iron chin, plus solid boxing.

Cote’s Weaknesses:  Over a year off from the sport is a tough thing for any fighter.  Cote is also not a very good finisher.

The Verdict:  Although Cote’s long absence is troubling, he has all the tools to win this fight.  His chin is rock solid and his superior wrestling will help him control the pace of the fight, especially in the clinch.  Cote by unanimous decision.
