Anderson Silva vs Demian Maia Fight Prediction – UFC 112

ANDERSON SILVA vs. DEMIAN MAIA

Fight Overview:  The best striker in the Middleweight division versus the best grappler in a classic style vs. style matchup.  Silva’s ground game is good, but Maia will control this fight if it reaches the ground and Silva will crush Maia in the standup, so this is an interesting matchup.

Maia’s Strengths:  Maia has easily the best submissions, and the best ground game in general, in the entire division.

Maia’s Weaknesses:  His standup is mediocre at best, his chin is somewhat questionable, and his wrestling has not caught up with his jiu-jitsu.

Silva’s Strengths:  Silva’s muay thai is ridiculous, with knockout power in his hands, feet, and knees.  He also has a good jiu-jitsu game and is the most dominant clinch fighter in the sport.

Silva’s Weaknesses:  Silva was submitted a few times earlier in his career, and he has mediocre takedown defense.

The Verdict:  Maia could submit Silva, but the likelihood he can secure a takedown without getting completely blasted is pretty low.  In the boxing he has no chance whatsoever against Silva, so he is going to have to telegraph his takedowns, which puts him at bad risk of eating a knee or getting tied up in the clinch, where he will fare even worse.  Silva will put Maia to sleep within a round, either way.

Fight Prediction:  Anderson “The Spider” Silva by first round T/KO referee stoppage.
