B.J PENN vs. FRANKIE EDGAR

Fight Overview:  Frankie Edgar looks to do what no other Lightweight has been able to do in years, topple seemingly unbeatable champion B.J. Penn.  Edgar has a well-rounded skillset, but does he have enough to succeed where other, more experienced fighters have failed miserably?

Edgar’s Strengths:  Edgar is very well rounded, with crisp boxing, good jiu-jitsu, and excellent wrestling.

Edgar’s Weaknesses:  He is not a very prolific finisher, and is not one of the best in the world at any one thing.  Not necessarily a weakness, but it’s hard to beat Penn at the well-rounded game.

Penn’s Strengths:  His jiu-jitsu is the best at Lightweight in UFC, his boxing is arguably the best at Lightweight in the entire sport, and he has really excellent takedown defense.

Penn’s Weaknesses:  Honestly, to even list a weakness here would be nitpicking at this point.

The Verdict:  Edgar is good, Penn is the best.  Better boxers than Edgar have been outboxed by Penn, better jiu-jitsu players have been out-grappled, and better wrestlers have had their takedowns repeatedly stuffed.  Expect Penn to pick Edgar apart on the feet, drop him, and submit him.

Fight Prediction:  B.J. “The Prodigy” Penn by third round rear naked choke.
