Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva Fight Prediction – UFC 110

MICHAEL BISPING vs. WANDERLEI SILVA

Fight Overview:  Wanderlei Silva makes his 185 pound debut against Michael Bisping.  Wanderlei has lost a step from his remarkable prime, but is still a dangerous fighter, although it seemed like the cut to 195 against Rich Franklin might have affected him.  It will be interesting to see what difference the extra 10 pounds makes.

Silva’s Strengths:  Silva’s Muay Thai is murderous, and his relentless pace has overwhelmed dozens of opponents.  He also has very underrated jiu-jitsu.

Silva’s Weaknesses:  His wrestling is not very good, his offense seems to have fallen off a bit with age, and there are questions about how well his body will handle the cut to 185.

Bisping’s Strengths:  Bisping has good kickboxing, although not the most powerful, and good jiu-jitsu.  He also has good and rapidly improving wrestling and a very devastating and active top game.

Bisping’s Weaknesses:  There are some questions about Bisping’s chin after the Henderson fight, and he has proven susceptible to intense pressure from opponents, which could be troublesome against Silva.

The Verdict:  Bisping is just too well-rounded for Silva at this point in his career.  A few years ago, Silva would have run roughshod over Bisping, but age has slowed him down, and now the stylistic disadvantage is just too much for him to overcome.  If this turns into a technical kickboxing match, Bisping probably wins, and if Silva pushes the pace very hard Bisping will likely take him down and pound him out.  Bisping by T/KO.

Fight PredictionMichael Bisping by third round T/KO.
