NATE MARQUARDT vs. CHAEL SONNEN

Fight Overview:  Nate Marquardt looks for his second shot at Anderson Silva’s title against dominant wrestler Chael Sonnen.  Whichever man wins is probably in line for the next shot, so this is an important fight.

Sonnen’s Strengths:  Sonnen’s wrestling is probably the best in the Middleweight division.  He has great shots, great clinch takedowns, smothering top control, and effective ground and pound.

Sonnen’s Weaknesses:   Sonnen’s striking is not very good at all, and he has shown holes in his submission defense.

Marquardt’s Strengths:  Marquardt has great kickboxing with knockout power, good wrestling, and excellent submissions.

Marquardt’s Weaknesses:  It’s hard to identify any real holes in Marquardt’s game, although he is definitely nowhere near as good a wrestler as Sonnen.

The Verdict:  Marquardt is just too well-rounded.  Sonnen will no doubt get a few takedowns, but Marquardt has the huge edge in the striking game and is a threat to finish off his back.  Sonnen will score a few takedowns, but ultimately Marquardt will take this by T/KO.

Prediction: Nate Marquardt by second round T/KO.
