Kimbo Slice vs. Houston Alexander Fight Prediction – TUF 10

KIMBO SLICE vs. HOUSTON ALEXANDER

Fight Overview:  Two brawlers, both of whom have built up considerable momentum and name value and seem to be in the process of squandering it all with incomplete skill sets, will meet to see whose star is going to fall faster.  Both men want to stand and bang, and neither has a good chin, so this is a “don’t blink” kind of fight.

Alexander’s Strengths:  Alexander’s best strengths are, without a doubt, his explosiveness and punching power.  He has proven that he has fight-ending power in his hands and knees, and a surplus of willingness to throw those hands.  His boxing isn’t very technical, but his hands are extremely fast and heavy, so if someone stands in front of him they are in for some hurt.

Alexander’s Weaknesses:  Alexander’s most notable weakness is his complete and utter lack of takedown defense or a ground game, but against an opponent like Slice that is unlikely to matter.  More importantly, some questions have been raised about the solidity of Alexander’s chin, which could prove problematic against a puncher who can throw fast and accurately like Slice.

Kimbo’s Strengths:  Kimbo’s best strengths are his accuracy and hand speed.  For someone with a background fighting for cash in streets, people’s houses, and boatyards, Slice’s boxing is surprisingly technical and he has a knack for throwing quick punches directly on target.

Kimbo’s Weaknesses:  A neophyte in the sport, Kimbo’s weaknesses are many and glaring.  Like Alexander, he has no ground game whatsoever, but once again that is unlikely to play a role.  Also like Alexander, Slice’s chin is questionable at best.  He had never really been hit solidly until his bout with Seth Petruzelli, but he folded up like an accordion from a weak straight that was essentially a jab.  Even more problematic for a guy whose entire offense is based on punching is Slice’s lack of knockout power.  James Thompson, who Kimbo seemed incapable of putting down, is one of the most notoriously glass-jawed fighters in the sport’s history and has been known to go to sleep when the wind picks up.

Prediction:  Both are middle of the road standup fighters with bad chins, so this should be a relatively short fight.  The most important difference between them is that, unlike Slice, Alexander has proven that he has knockout power against semi-quality opposition.  That should be all it takes, and Alexander will get back on the winning side of things with a quick T/KO.
