King Mo Lawal vs. Rafael Cavalcante Fight Prediction – Strikeforce Houston

MUHAMMED LAWAL vs. RAFAEL CAVALCANTE

Fight Overview:  Two heavy-handed monsters go at it with the Light Heavyweight belt on the line.  Lawal has punching power to spare and a dominant takedown attack, while Cavalcante is a consummate striker who can put opponents away with hands and knees.

Cavalcante’s Strengths:  Cavalcante has great striking all around.  He is good from range, in the clinch, and with all four limbs.

Cavalcante’s Weaknesses:  His chin is not made of granite and his ground game is largely unproven.

Lawal’s Strengths:  Lawal has huge punching power, great takedowns, and a devastating top game on the ground with vicious ground and pound.

Lawal’s Weaknesses:  He likes to stand and throw bombs, and that is a bad plan against Cavalcante.

The Verdict:  This matchup favors King Mo stylistically.  He has the ability to finish the fight standing, as does Cavalcante, but unlike Cavalcante Lawal can likely take this fight to the ground whenever he wants to.  I think that is what will happen, and King Mo will unload on Cavalcante from top position until the ref is forced to step in and stop it.
